Luxurious focal point, with a purpose
7 Dale in the Forest hill area of Toronto is a luxurious new-build where Luminous Stone completed a custom illuminated feature with a kitchen and living room divider. Designed to serve as both a visual focal point and a functional wine tasting surface within the cabinet.
The client requested a specific illuminated block look that made the space feel luxurious and integrated into the overall wine display. While the feature needed to make a strong visual impact it also had to serve as a practical surface with a purpose in the space, creating a refined area for entertaining.
Stone Selection: White Onyx
Chosen for its translucency, natural veining and ability to work in tandem with backlighting, white onyx allowed the feature to glow warmly within the wide display, adding a depthy atmosphere while highlighting the natural movement within the stone itself.
Using a natural 13mm honeycomb-backed whit onyx allowed Luminous Stone to create the look of a solid stone form, without becoming overly heavy, This allows for the application to feel lightweight, strong and sustainable.
Lightweight 5-sided block
An impressive fabrication detail is that the completed five-sided block weights only 100 pounds. This is great for allowing the feature to achieve a monolithic appearance without the weight limitations of a solid stone block.
The method used for construction made it possibly for Luminous Stone to balance luxury, strength and practicality. This results in a refined, illuminated stone feature that brings an architectural experience to the space, while still functioning as a usable surface.
Innovative Lighting with the Wine Square
Partnering with The Wine Square, we complete this project, ensuring the illuminated onyx feature worked seamlessly with the surrounding wine cellar design. Carefully coordinated with the lighting system to match the white LED lighting used throughout the other features of the wine display.
For this project we integrated warm white only with no integrated colour-change system. The light is dimmable and controlled through the system used by The Wine Square. This allowed the illuminated stone to experience the space fully integrated with a luxury atmosphere rather than added as a separate feature.
